A little history

Port of Valleyfield
The Port

The Port of Valleyfield was constructed between 1967 and 1968. At the time, its pivotal mission was to serve the needs of the local zinc transformation plant, Zinc Électrolytique du Canada. Other businesses in the receiving and handling of liquid and dry bulk cargoes also benefited from the Port's facilities. In time, the Port's commercial activity was broadened to include even more customers.

The Société du Port de Valleyfield was subsequently established in 1968 and was mandated with the management and promotion of all activities related to the Port of Valleyfield.

Each year, some 100 vessels dock at the Port of Valleyfield where more than 500,000 metric tons of merchandise, such as industrial salt and cocoa, is handled. In 2006, the Port of Valleyfield counted more than 10 businesses as its tenants.
